The debut feature film from Silent Hills Studio focuses on a social issue of migration, separation and solitude. The film is a journey of three generations, first the old age people left alone in villages, second the middle age people who have migrated to the cities in search of employment and third the younger generation who are unaware of their roots.
In the history of more than 100 years of Indian Cinema, Saanjh is the first feature film from the hill state Himachal Pradesh to make it to cinema halls within the state and nationwide as well.
Behind The Scenes Aditi Charak plays the main protagonist Sanju who is left in the village with her lonely grandmother Rupeshwari Sharma. The character of Jonga an unwanted houseguest for Sanju is played by Vishal Parpagga. The film also introduces two known faces from Indian Film Industry Asif Basra and Taranjit Kaur as Sanju’s parents.

Set in the beautiful Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh, Saanjh follows the journey of Sanju, a 16-year-old city girl who becomes the victim of bogus social-media posts. When her father discovers a compromising online video in which Sanju supposedly features, he consigns her to their remote ancestral village to stay with her grandmother. Isolated and dejected, Sanju encounters ill-mannered house guest Jonga and finds surprising solace in his company. Unable to adjust to the village lifestyle, she hatches a plan to escape the village with help of Jonga, but need time to raise enough cash. Meanwhile, Sanju slowly begins to understand her grandmother’s pain—living a secluded life with almost no contact with her children—and a deep bond grows between them. When the grandmother falls sick, the film focuses on one unforgettable Saanjh (evening) in which they are caught between light and darkness.
Saw the movie today, accept my congratulations on making a beautiful movie, it has captured the essence of Himachal and it’s aspirations and portrayed human relations beautifully. The locations are heavenly.
